Technical Information

The George Daily Auditorium is a 696-seat house that opened in August of 1997. It has a proscenium-style stage and a proscenium opening of 49′ x 18′ with a 31′ depth from the proscenium arch to the back wall. There is a 14′ deep curved apron with an 8′ deep orchestra pit underneath. The floor is softwood covered with masonite in the acting area with a hardwood apron. Wing spaces are concrete.

There are two 15’x16′ dressing rooms with full bathrooms and showers included. There is one stage right and one stage left 8′ from the proscenium opening. The backstage consists of an attached black box theatre that is 50′ x 28 1/2′ and an adjoining shop area.

There is a complete fly system of 25 lines including 3 electrics, an act curtain, traveler, concert curtain, sky cyc, and a white scrim. The battens are capable of flying out to 41′ above the stage. There are various motor points dead hung from the roof beams about the fly loft.

The fire alarm system utilizes optical smoke detectors that can not be disabled. Light to moderate haze/fog is acceptable but heavy haze/fog will trigger the alarms. We have no way of turning this off. There are a loading dock and drive that can accommodate semis.

The overhead door from the loading dock into the backstage areas is 12’6″h x 12’w. Adjacent to the lobby is a separate reception area with serving kitchen facilities.

The lighting is controlled by an ETC Element Control Console with 1024 outputs and 250 channels. It is housed in the control booth at the rear of the house.

There is one front of house lighting cove above the ceiling and two front of house side pockets. On-stage lighting is from three electrics, six drop boxes with 75′ cables, and side floor pockets. The cove lighting has 32 circuits, the onstage electrics have 16 circuits each arranged in pairs stage right and left, and each dropbox has 6 separate circuits. The front of house side pockets have 4 circuits each and the stage has 24 circuits in floor pockets.

An instrument inventory can be found below and a variety of gels are kept in the house. There are two Strong Canto 1200 follow spots in a lighting balcony above the control booth. Additional instruments are available from the local college and community theatre.

The control booth houses a Soundcraft Spirit 8 40-channel mixer, a TASCAM MD-301 Mk II mini disc deck, a TASCAM CD-RW 700 CD-Rewritable recorder, a Denon DCM 360 5 disc CD player, a 2 deck TEAC cassette tape playback unit, Digi 001, PreSonus Digimax Preamp, and a Lexicon MPX 500. All sound control is portable to the house directly in front of the booth. The auditorium has 16 jacks spread throughout the facility, a stage snake and box of additional 16 jacks, and stage monitor capabilities for 5 separate mixes with 6 Yorkville and 1 Yamaha stage monitor. There is also a dedicated Mac available to run Qlab or other basic audio software. There is a Telex intercom system with 4 wireless and 7 wired headsets. The auditorium has an individually controlled sound monitor system throughout the building.
