Traditionally, “dark weeks” or “dark days” are times when nothing is scheduled in a theatre space. It’s time when everyone needs to go home and rest. This coming week, there will be no theatre camp and no rehearsals, but that doesn’t necessarily mean there isn’t anything going on in the building.
We are continuing to add many production elements. This week will give our production team precious time to work out things on the main stage without having to share the space. We will be hanging and circuiting lights, taking off the pit cover, finishing set pieces, puppets, shadow puppets, painting, and just about anything else we can cram into the time.
You will also see some new posters start to appear that feature the tremendous photography skills of our Information and Outreach Coordinator, Grace Richardson. For many years, she’s been the Auditorium’s go-to for photography needs. This year, we hired her on for photography and some administrative support with the Youth Theatre. Grace was a theatre camper and an Oskaloosa School District graduate, and she had just graduated from William Penn University with a degree in Creative Arts. Her Instagram and Facebook pages for Graceful Photos are worth following, and you can see if she is available to photograph your next event. We are always so happy with her work.
It will be the first time costume pieces see the light of day. Let us know what you think! Between the set pieces, puppets, costumes, props, music, and pictures, I’m constantly reminded how lucky we are to have such a great team working on this show. Every day, we get closer to this massive thing, and I’m so fortunate to work with such incredible people.
